A Message from the Principal
Our standards of excellence in both expectations and student achievement have resulted in an increase in student enrollment for 2012-2013. As a result; Knight has earned additional personnel which we will use to open a new classroom to serve our children in fourth grade and to provide reading support in first and second grades. We are in the process of establishing the new fourth grade classroom. You will be notified on Friday, October 11, if your child will be moved.
I appreciate your support and cooperation as we make these transitions. Thank you for all you do to allow us to provide your child the excellence in education that he/she deserves.
Teacher of the Year 2013-14
Ms. Milando, Second Grade Teacher, is this year's Teacher of the Year!
Congratulations, Ms. Milando
GCPS Plan for Making Up Instructional Time Missed Due to Inclement Weather
The school system will use its three built-in make-up days:
February 17, March 14, and May 22
The remaining four days will be made up by extending the school day by 30 minutes for 48 days. This means that all schools will dismiss a half-hour later than their regular time, from March 3 through May 14.
The last day of school will be Thursday, May 22.
(Adjustments will be made to the tentative graduation schedule with the caveat that additional changes could occur if more days are missed due to inclement weather. High schools will communicate those changes with seniors and their families.)
The following changes will be made to the dismissal process:
Starting on Monday, March 3, we will begin our dismissal at 3:50 PM.
Car riders, daycare buses/vans and walkers are called first; then, we call the first set of buses that are here. From there, we call the remaining buses as they arrive on campus. Our dismissal process usually takes about 20 minutes.
We will use this additional time at the end of the day as valuable instruction time to extend the learning of all students. This will enable us the extra time to review, enrich, and remediate skills as needed.
We understand that this will impact after school care and afternoon schedules; hopefully, this week will allow you the opportunity to make the changes, as needed.
Again…this process will begin on
Monday, March 3, 2014.
GCPS is focused on four major initiatives, initiatives connected to our core business of teaching and learning and to our vision of becoming a system of world- class schools. We encourage you to learn more about these initiatives:
